Not at all what I hoped for in this。 Feels like a lot was missed, despite all of the cool things that happened with the layout。

I love the art, but the story was a bit confusing。

I very much enjoyed Gideon Falls at the beginning, but I have to say that I am not a huge fan of the second half of the series。 Although I preferred this volume to the precedent, it still feels kind of forced, it doesn’t flow as well as volumes 1-3。The art is still greatly weird and definitely puts you out of your comfort zone, and Lemire is a great character writer, although his dialogues aren’t great in this book。It might be because I’m not a huge horror fan, but I only liked this series, I di I very much enjoyed Gideon Falls at the beginning, but I have to say that I am not a huge fan of the second half of the series。 Although I preferred this volume to the precedent, it still feels kind of forced, it doesn’t flow as well as volumes 1-3。The art is still greatly weird and definitely puts you out of your comfort zone, and Lemire is a great character writer, although his dialogues aren’t great in this book。It might be because I’m not a huge horror fan, but I only liked this series, I didn’t love it。 I’ll probably revisit it in a couple years, maybe reading all six volume in a row will help。 。。。more

A okay ending to a otherwise great, weird, and fucked up series。 This is only about 80 pages of story。 You have all the protagonists coming to face this demon/monster。 A lot of trippy moments here, some really cool ways to do the art as well。 I enjoyed the look into family and helping one another。 The main "Villain' was easily finished off though and the zinger ending didn't do TOO much for me。 But still it was entertaining and looked great。 The series as a whole was great, this volume though wa A okay ending to a otherwise great, weird, and fucked up series。 This is only about 80 pages of story。 You have all the protagonists coming to face this demon/monster。 A lot of trippy moments here, some really cool ways to do the art as well。 I enjoyed the look into family and helping one another。 The main "Villain' was easily finished off though and the zinger ending didn't do TOO much for me。 But still it was entertaining and looked great。 The series as a whole was great, this volume though was the weakest。 A 3 out of 5。 。。。more

What a garbage ending。

Bryan

The pacing of a single-issue final volume was a terrible decision that sapped all momentum heading into a very anticlimactic ending。 A beautiful but empty and unsatisfying finale to a series I really enjoyed。

This whole series was beautifully illustrated and was a creative take on multiverse badddies。 I'm seeing reviews where folks are disappointed at the abruptness of the conclusion of the series。 It felt like a genies wish, *POOF* with just the right mix of normal life with ominous overtone needed。 I was able to pick up volumes 1-4 at the library but read the 5th on Hoopla and the sixth again from the library。 When the last was released and available on Hoopla before my library got their copies, I This whole series was beautifully illustrated and was a creative take on multiverse badddies。 I'm seeing reviews where folks are disappointed at the abruptness of the conclusion of the series。 It felt like a genies wish, *POOF* with just the right mix of normal life with ominous overtone needed。 I was able to pick up volumes 1-4 at the library but read the 5th on Hoopla and the sixth again from the library。 When the last was released and available on Hoopla before my library got their copies, I couldn't wait for the conclusion so I downloaded it。 I don't know if it's an AI who handles the zooms and transitions as you scroll from pages to panels into speech bubbles and sfx but it's actually a lot of fun to experience。 I'm assuming it's in the printed version but if it's not, the hoopla version has the final script with the Lemire's notes including "Make it trippy, Andrea" which I enjoyed。 Plus a breakdown of the innerworkings of Gideon Falls which includes: the mulitverse map, the barn, and the center of the universe。 My one critique is more of a wish; if they ever adapt the series to another medium, I hope we spend some more time in the center to flesh out how they knew as much as they did when the other versions of themselves don't seem to spend anymore time outside the center to have the right knowledge sets。 。。。more

A very short final volume, with an ending that is a tad abrupt for my taste, though it doesn't bring down an overall amazing journey of a story。 Highly recommended, especially for fans of Lemire。 A very short final volume, with an ending that is a tad abrupt for my taste, though it doesn't bring down an overall amazing journey of a story。 Highly recommended, especially for fans of Lemire。 。。。more

3。5 - I've enjoyed this title, and would recommend it, but I didn't know what the ending meant or the logic of how we got here。As I've said before, incredible art and design, genuinely unsettling atmosphere。 Lemire is great。The earlier volumes with the alternate universes and character background were fantastic but, overall, I can't help but wish the centre of the evil in the plot had been explained by some relatable event linked to the characters。 Leaving it so abstract felt like I hadn't been 3。5 - I've enjoyed this title, and would recommend it, but I didn't know what the ending meant or the logic of how we got here。As I've said before, incredible art and design, genuinely unsettling atmosphere。 Lemire is great。The earlier volumes with the alternate universes and character background were fantastic but, overall, I can't help but wish the centre of the evil in the plot had been explained by some relatable event linked to the characters。 Leaving it so abstract felt like I hadn't been rewarded for my continued attention, to be honest。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 The ending feels a little rushed。 On top of that, a little lackluster。 The art remains stunning, and the tone phenomenal。 It feels like there are some things missing from the plot。 Regardless, Jeff and Andrea have made a compelling universe。 I wish we could've spent more time there。 The ending feels a little rushed。 On top of that, a little lackluster。 The art remains stunning, and the tone phenomenal。 It feels like there are some things missing from the plot。 Regardless, Jeff and Andrea have made a compelling universe。 I wish we could've spent more time there。 。。。more

This has ended。 I have a million questions。

After a lot of build up the ending is quite disappointing。 Lacking resolution really。 Though still very impressive use of the medium。

I can’t really think of a better ending。 Sorrentino and Stewart make an excellent team。

So this is how Gideon Falls ends。。。 I like it。 It's always hard to finish a series like that, but for me it was satisfying I like the style and the ideas behind it。 Another good one by Jeff Lemire! This has been one of my favourite graffic novel series in a while and I've lived each installment as its come out。 It's both followed and kicked over comic and science fiction conventions in equal measure。 That said I don't know whether to be disappointed by its ending or not。 Its kind of surprising in a not surprising kind of way。 So for now ⭐⭐⭐, we'll see if it earns another ⭐ after a full reread of the series at a later date。 This has been one of my favourite graffic novel series in a while and I've lived each installment as its come out。 It's both followed and kicked over comic and science fiction conventions in equal measure。 That said I don't know whether to be disappointed by its ending or not。 Its kind of surprising in a not surprising kind of way。 So for now ⭐⭐⭐, we'll see if it earns another ⭐ after a full reread of the series at a later date。 。。。more

An okay ending to a great series。 I would still recommend Gideon Falls to fans of horror fiction, but the ending fizzles out all the buildup this series had。 A lot of the time travel turns out to be complete nonsense。 Quick! You have to do *thing*! Why? Because it has to happen。 It already happened, so just do it! Most of these actions don't actually help in any way or have weight to the story。 Mild spoiler: (view spoiler)[Oh, and the "great evil" that we're supposed to fear turns out to be woef An okay ending to a great series。 I would still recommend Gideon Falls to fans of horror fiction, but the ending fizzles out all the buildup this series had。 A lot of the time travel turns out to be complete nonsense。 Quick! Excellent ending。 At the end of 26 it is hard to believe that it can all wrap up。 The ending actually reminds me a bit of Paper Girls with the obvious difference being time travel/timelines vs multiverse。 I was very satisfied with the ending and think they possibly even left the door open a smidgen for a follow-up series, but I would leave it just the way that it is。

So does anything really end or was it just inevitable。

I have a feeling people are calling this series 'mind-bending', when they really mean 'faintly confusing'。 It's a story built up out of horror and sci-fi clichés, that bigly whiffs the ending, and sacrifices characterisation to plot。So we have cosmic horror that doesn't work because it's not actually cosmic horror, just smells like it a bit。 The first couple of times you see the grinning man (and I'm sticking to that name, it's a million times better than the 'laughing man' or 'smiling man') it I have a feeling people are calling this series 'mind-bending', when they really mean 'faintly confusing'。 It's a story built up out of horror and sci-fi clichés, that bigly whiffs the ending, and sacrifices characterisation to plot。So we have cosmic horror that doesn't work because it's not actually cosmic horror, just smells like it a bit。 The first couple of times you see the grinning man (and I'm sticking to that name, it's a million times better than the 'laughing man' or 'smiling man') it is genuinely unnerving。 But then he/it starts popping up everywhere, and even worse - he/it starts speaking。 And he sounds like a run of the mill psychopath。Poof! Cosmic horror: gone。 The grinning man shouldn't give a shit about humans, he/it should plough right through us on his/its unknowable way。 Cosmic horror works on the idea that we are insignificant, we can't begin to understand the thing that's coming for us。 The grinning man is a provincial horror, at best。Instead we get a monster that wants to inhabit one of the main characters, because he's Special。 Never really explained why, it's there because that's what happens in stories。 We need a The One。The Five Travellers。 Why five? Because Pentoculus。 Because that's what happens in stories。 It just is。A priest character who does a thing because he believes in it, and he's a priest, they believe things for s living。 It also helps the story along and feels like a character moment - cheap and corny, but still。A priest character who suddenly can't be hurt by the provincial horror, because he doesn't believe in the provincial horror。 He's a priest, it works! It is never mentioned again, never used again。The One character decides to sacrifice himself, because that's what characters do in stories, and the rest joins him, because they're the Five Travellers, and there's five of them five five FIVEGideon Falls is literally the centre of the universe。 The walls of reality are thin there or something, it is never really explained, it just is。 Because the series is called Gideon Falls, is my guess。The fact that so many people say 'it could've only ended like this' means the ending is another cliché, and means it could've ended in many other and better ways。The art is great。 I liked it。 And Jeff Lemire is generally a really good writer。 I've seen more than one person mention they don't like Lemire's sci-fi writing, so maybe that's his weak spot。 I will have to investigate further。1。FIVE stars 。。。more

The only way they could have ended it。For the last issue/vol being 80 pages, it sure went by quick! The art is fantastic through the whole thing and the fact that they never lost the momentum of the story is kinda of wild! I really enjoyed this one。 I hope this team does something else together。 And honestly, this was the only way they could have ended the series。
